5 KEYS TO SUCCESS

I’ve been on blogger for over a year now and I have learned so much along the way. The first few months were confusing and I wasn’t gaining any traction and then in January I made some changes, and as a result of that, I was able to grow the channel from 300 pageviews to 100,000 pageviews in 11 months! In this blog, I wanted to share some of the keys to success, some of the things that I’ve learned along the way, and by the way, these are not Blogger specific things, they can apply to you if you’re an artist or writer, or someone just starting a creative business, or someone just following their dreams. If you’re interested keep watching. I wanted to provide a base tip because this is the most important tip. If you don’t do this it’s impossible to achieve success, and my base tip is Just Get Started! I started my writing in late November 2017, but that was actually my first step. my point is it’s really, really important to start somewhere — that somewhere may not necessarily be where you end up but it’s still a start.

So many of us have dreams and aspirations but we just keep on contemplating and we don’t actually get started. So my advice to you if you’ve been thinking about starting something and you haven’t done it yet, make 2019the year that you start. Just start. Take some action and you will get somewhere eventually. You have to take that first step. Now let’s get into the keys to success that I learned this year.

1 — Having a clear vision is important. When I started writing I did not have a clear vision — I was testing the waters — I was experimenting — I was figuring things out, the branding was all over the place, the content was a little bit all over the place, the style was all over the place. It’s because I didn’t have a clear vision, and you know what that’s okay. When you’re starting a new creative endeavor it’s going to be like that in the first phase, you’re going to be testing and experimenting. Let’s say as an example you are trying to become a writer. You may want to consider trying different writing styles and different genres until you find the right one that fits. So it was the same for me — I was trying different things until I figure out what I liked and what I didn’t like. And once I had a better understanding of that it was time for me to go from the ‘testing the waters’ phase to ‘clear vision phase. So in January, I created a clear vision for writing. I changed the branding. I made everything look more cohesive, and I think that really helped. It really bumped up the growth, it made a huge difference because I was clear, people were clear about what I had to offer. My advice to you — if you’re struggling and you’re not gaining any traction, take a step back and try to form a clear vision of what you want and where you want to go with your business, or with your writing, or with your art. I think it will make a huge difference just to take some time off to create that clearer vision. There’s a quote from Joel Barker that I wanted to mention — vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.

2 — Staying true to yourself is important. When you’re doing any sort of creative work I think it’s really, really important to stay authentic to yourself and true to yourself. Let me explain this with an example. So when I started the wearstuffsworld I knew that I wanted to talk about a wide variety of topics, not just nutrition, I am a nutritionist but that’s not the only thing I’m passionate about. I wanted to make sure that I could talk about a wide variety. I have so many more things that I’m passionate about, and I’m happy that I kept it is going in a direction where there’s a balance of topics. So I would say that if you are a creative professional and you’re trying to figure things out, and you’re not sure what you want to do, just stay true to yourself, stay authentic to who you are, and you will be able to do your work long-term that way. So just figure out what it is that you truly enjoy, figure out what itis that you’re truly passionate about and just go down on that path.

3 — Keep learning new skills as you grow. I think when it comes to any creative business or even a non-creative business, it’s important to upgrade your skills every single year. I had a base level of skills in 2017 when I started my writing, it was good enough, but I knew I had scope for upgrading those skills and doing even better. So in 2018 this year I spent quite a bit of time learning more about writing, SEO, all those things, and I think that time spent on learning skills is never wasted, you’re always going to use it. I would recommend testing out courses on Skillshare and Udemy to see if there’s something that you like, and if you feel like you’re at a phase in your business where things are a little bit stagnant, a new skill set can really up the game, it really makes a big difference.

4 — Finding out what makes you different is key when it comes to any creative work. I do think it’s important to differentiate yourself from others so you can stand out from the crowd. When I first start on Blogger I don’t think I really stood out of the crowd, I wasn’t gaining any traction because of that. I gained a lot more traction after July. Why? Because I spent most of June figuring out what made my website different from others. My website is not different in terms of the topic choice. The topics that I choose are a lot of popular topics that others already have done. What’s different is the approach — the fact that I approach things with an ascience-backed approach. I put all of my references in my description. I try to make things as easy as possible for the layman to understand, and the fact that I have actionable steps in Blogs. That’s what makes my approach different from others, so that’s what I’ve been focusing on since July, and I think that’s what’s made the website grow even faster. So if you are in a creative field and a creative niche where there a lot of people, you need to stand out from the crowd. To do that, take a step back, think about what makes you different, what is different but your skillset, what is different about your life experiences, what can you bring to the work that will help you stand out from other people.

5 — create a streamlined routine for work that gets repeated again and again. Basically become time-efficient. So when it comes to success I think its important to get things done in an efficient way. Now when I first started on the Blogger, I was not efficient with my writing, and it took a lot longer to get things done than it does today. I’m still not a hundred percent there. So I think when it comes to any sort of creative work, if there’s something that you’re doing, again and again, see if you can streamline the process and that way you’re actually going to be able to get a lot done in the last time. And a good way to streamline the process is to try that processing.
